Step one
Write in Oktob, or bring your Word file.
Start a new book from the gallery and write, or import a Word (DOCX) manuscript. Oktob lists what it could not convert, so you review the changes instead of hunting for them.
Step two
Give the book its structure.
Arrange parts and chapters, then add front and back matter from templates: title page, copyright, dedication, contents, appendices. Deleted sections wait in a bin until you are sure.
Step three
Design it like a book, not a document.
Pick a book type and a template, then shape the chapter openings, headings, fonts and styles. Styles apply to the whole book, so a change reaches every chapter at once.
Step four
See every page, then export.
Proof draws every page and spread with margin, trim, bleed and gutter guides. Review & checks lists what needs attention. Then export a print PDF with KDP or IngramSpark geometry, and a reflowable EPUB checked with EPUBCheck.
Amazon KDP does not accept Arabic paperbacks at present. Oktob makes the files; each distributor sets its own rules.
All the way through
Your files stay on your Mac.
Your book is a file on your computer. Oktob saves safely, keeps recovery copies and snapshots, and keeps a copy of the older book when it upgrades one.
Atomic saves
A save finishes completely or not at all, so a crash cannot leave half a book.
Snapshots and recovery
Go back to an earlier state of the book, or recover work after a problem.
Nothing lost on upgrade
An upgrade keeps a copy of the older book. A book from a newer version is refused, with the reason.
If you connect an AI assistant, it sends what it reads to its own provider.
